中之門跡（皇居東御苑）

　皇居内の石垣は、特別史跡「江戸城跡」に指定されています。「本丸中之門石垣」修復工事は平成17年（2005）8月から平成19年（2007）3月にかけて行いました。
　修復は、文化財調査を行いながら、石垣を変形前の形状に復元することを目標にしました。
　石垣には、江戸城の中でも最大級の巨石が使われ、布積みという技法で積まれています。また、この中之門石垣には、本丸御殿への登城口として渡櫓門が配置されていました。

The stonewalls of the imperial Palace are designated as a special historic structure of "the Former Edo Castle".
The restoration work of the Honmaru-Nakanomon Gate stonewall,was carried out from August 2005 through March 2007.
The purpose of the work was to restore the stonewall to its original condition that hadexisted before it deteriorated and to conduct cultural assets investigation while perfoming the work.
The Nakanomon Gate is built with stones larger than those used in other stonewalls in the Edo Castle and by employing a technique called "nunozumi",where rows of stones are horizontally laid on top of one another.As regards the Honmaru-Nakanomon Gate stone-wall,the castle once had a barbican defense-house,Watariyagura-mon,constructed as an entry point to the Honmaru buildings.
